About the Mushrooms & Fungi Memory Game
Half plant-like, half magic — mushrooms pop up overnight, glow in the dark and connect entire forests underground. A woodland-walk of a deck for curious naturalists.
What's in the Mushrooms & Fungi deck
The full deck, so you know exactly what you're up against — 12 cards, 6 pairs: 🍄 Toadstool🍄🟫 Brown Mushroom🌲 Forest Pine🍂 Leaf Litter🌧️ Damp Rain🐌 Snail🪵 Log🌿 Moss🧺 Foraging Basket🔍 Magnifier🐞 Ladybird🌳 Old Oak
Study tip: link the first three — toadstool, brown mushroom and forest pine — into one ridiculous mental picture. Absurd images stick; lists don't. Then do the same for the next three, and the board will memorise itself.
How to memorise a nature board
Nature decks are scenes waiting to happen. Put the sun or moon at the top of your mental image, weather in the middle band, and plants and terrain at the bottom — a three-layer landscape. When you need to recall whether the mushroom was there, you check the forest floor layer, not the whole board.
Use the seasons as a story spine: blossom, then fruit, then falling leaves, then snow. If the deck's items can be walked through in seasonal order once, the order itself becomes a checklist you can replay mentally whenever you are hunting a missing pair.
Fun Facts About Mushrooms & Fungi
- Fungi are neither plants nor animals — but they're actually more closely related to animals.
- The largest living organism on Earth is a honey fungus in Oregon spanning nearly 10 square kilometres.
- Trees share nutrients through underground fungal networks — nicknamed the "wood wide web".
- Over 70 species of mushroom glow in the dark.
How to Play
Tap any card to flip it over, revealing the mushroom image underneath. Tap a second card — if the two match, they stay face up and you keep going. If not, they flip back after a moment. Your goal is to match every pair in as few moves as possible.
Three difficulty levels are available: easy (6 pairs), medium (8 pairs) and hard (12 pairs). Switch between them any time with the difficulty buttons above the board. Start on easy if you're new, or jump straight to hard for a proper brain workout.
Nature deck questions
Do nature themes suit older players?
Yes — gardens, weather and landscapes are familiar at every age, which makes the boards friendly rather than childish. Many care-home activity sessions use exactly this kind of deck for gentle reminiscence.
How do I stop the green tiles blurring together?
Anchor on shape, not colour. A leaf, a fern and a clover are all green but wildly different silhouettes — memorise the outlines and the colour stops mattering.
