About the Video Store Night recall game
The agony of choosing one film, the smell of popcorn at the till, the dreaded late fee โ a Friday-night trip to the video shop was a ritual millions still miss. Press play on the rental-store deck and let it all come flooding back.
Did you know?
- At its peak, Blockbuster had over 9,000 video rental stores worldwide.
- "Be kind, rewind" stickers reminded renters to rewind VHS tapes before returning them.
- A brand-new VHS film could cost shops over $80 in the early years โ which is why renting made sense.
- The very last Blockbuster store, in Bend, Oregon, still operates as a nostalgic tourist attraction.
Frequently asked questions
How does the Video Store Night recall game work?
All the video store night tiles are shown face up for a few seconds โ memorise the layout. They then hide, and the game asks for each one in turn ("Where was the VHS Tape?"). Click the right spot to reveal it; wrong clicks count as misses.
What are the difficulty levels?
Quick is 6 tiles with 6 seconds of study time, Standard is 9 tiles with 8 seconds, and Full Deck lays out all 12 tiles with 10 seconds. Your best first-try score is saved for each level.
Is it free?
Completely free, no signup, nothing to install. Progress is saved privately on your device.
